Oldenburg (dpa) – BBL boss Stefan Holz praised the Oldenburg veteran Rickey Paulding before his last two games as a professional in the highest tones. “He is the prototype of the franchise player. It’s an absolutely unusual story,” said the managing director of the basketball Bundesliga of the German Press Agency about the 39-year-old American.
Paulding has been playing for EWE Baskets for 15 years and will end his career at the weekend. The last home game against Würzburg is on Friday, followed by the last game of the season at MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg on Sunday. The Oldenburgs are 13th in the table. no chance for the playoffs.
“He’s an outstanding player and a great guy,” Holz said of Paulding. “He’s still capable, but everything has its time. It’s also an art to stop at the right moment,” said Holz. “He seems to be able to do that like Per Günther,” said the BBL boss.
Like Paulding, ex-national player Günther will end his career after this season. The point guard still qualified for the playoffs with ratiopharm Ulm. Another face of the league stops in Alex King from s.Oliver Würzburg.
