Hand-Zoff costs St. Pauli the win against Werder – Bundesliga

What madness! In the 1-1 draw in the intense northern summit between St. Pauli and Werder Bremen, the goals caused a great deal of excitement. Especially when Werder equalized, there was a handball in the preparation, which was not penalized by the referee.

Hand-Zoff costs St. Pauli the victory

Mega atmosphere at the Millerntor, which is sold out again for the first time with 29,546 spectators. Both fan camps are sounding the alarm. On the lawn, both teams are initially in caution mode. Only with the blast from Marcel Hartel from 23 meters, which Jiri Pavlenka can defuse with difficulty (12th), does the post go off. Werder created the better chances, but Niclas Füllkrug (25′) and Marvin Ducksch (36′) carelessly spoiled the best opportunities. The Kiez-Kicker wobble in defence.

Excitement when St. Pauli goalscorer Guido Burgstaller falls against Mitchell Weiser in the penalty area. But the whistle of referee Florian Badstübner remains silent – and the VAR does not intervene either (40th). But then the lead for St. Pauli – according to the proven pattern: Leart Paqarada with an exemplary cross – and Daniel-Kofi Kyereh pushes in at the far post (43.). Werder angry because Milos Veljkovic had previously fallen in midfield in a duel with Afeez Aremu.

Werder answers after the break. And again there is great excitement: Felix Agu takes the ball with his hand on the outside line and plays the ball through Marcel Beifus’ legs. Leonardo Bittencourt crosses, Romano Schmid passes – and Niclas Füllkrug scores to make it 1-1 (58th). Protests from St. Pauli, but the goal counts even after a short check.

Timo Schultz (44) was angry. But St. Pauli’s coach diplomatically: “I was never a friend of the video referee and will not be after this scene either. If you check it and then stick with it, then you have to ask yourself why is it checked at all. He should only intervene if it’s a blatantly wrong decision.”

After the equalizer, things get divided on both sides. St. Pauli presses harder on the winning goal in the final phase. But Werder almost does it: Ducksch only hits the crossbar (86th). Big winner by the draw: Schalke 04 by beating Heidenheim.
