German national player aims to jump to the USA

National player Justus Hollatz drew attention to himself with strong performances. His path may already lead to the NBA this year.

A boy from Hamburg wants to cross the pond – and curiosity in North America should definitely be aroused this summer: national basketball player Jonas Hollatz wants to fulfill his dream of the NBA and has registered for this year’s draft. National coach Gordon Herbert sees the 20-year-old as a possible “point guard of the future”.

Last year, Hollatz already felt with a draft registration and then withdrew. This season, the professional from Bundesliga club Hamburg Towers has taken another big step and is again on the list for the talent award on June 23 in New York.

“First of all, it’s a formal step to meet the registration deadline, which expires in the next twelve days,” said Hollatz in a Towers press release: “It’s important for me to get feedback from the scouts – that’s what I know what I need to work on to improve my chances.” His name should also be known in the elite league, added Hollatz, “maybe there will also be the opportunity to do one or the other workout.”

According to his advisor Dragan Jankovski from the BEO Basket agency, Hollatz has many doors open. “Because of his incredibly strong season, there is a lot of interest from Europe and the NBA,” said Jankovski, according to Hamburger Abendblatt. The top German clubs Bayern Munich and Alba Berlin are also said to have knocked on the door – perhaps Hollatz, who made his debut in the jersey of the German Basketball Association (DBB) at the beginning of 2021 and can hope to participate in the home European Championship this year, dares the even bigger jump.

If there is no interest from the NBA, in which seven German professionals are currently active, the shooting star will remove his name from the list by June 1 and could try again in 2023.
