Followed up – The championship must be the greatest again – Bundesliga

FC Bayern can become German champions early in the top game against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. And if it doesn’t work out, it’ll happen a week later in Mainz. I don’t know anyone who would bet against it.

But that will probably not gild the Bayern season anymore! After the end of the DFB Cup and the miserable failure in the Champions League against Villarreal, the verdicts have long been made: there is already talk of a “disappointing season”. And one title is “far too little for the claims of FC Bayern”.

As a football fan, I don’t like that at all. As if a confidently won German championship (currently nine points ahead) was hardly worth anything!

That goes with it: being a master trainer used to be a real accolade. Only in Munich obviously no longer. Carlo Ancelotti was sent to the desert just after the 2017 championship and Niko Kovac just after the 2019 double. And now Julian Nagelsmann has to be careful that he gets the curve at Bayern despite the title.

Oliver Kahn says they are proud to be the first club to win the championship ten times in a row in one of the top European leagues.

In truth, however, he is only addressing the next problem: the Bundesliga is officially the most boring league in Europe. And Bayern’s record dominance also means that the national title is becoming more and more devalued from year to year. It’s clear who will be champion…

Real excitement can only be generated again in the Bundesliga when the championship is finally the biggest thing again!

Just imagine what would happen if 1. FC Köln won the title again next year with the wild Steffen Baumgart on the line after 45 years! Or Frankfurt with the fan power of Barcelona after 64 years!

One can probably dream a little! But the reality is that hardly anyone doubts that Bayern will also win their No. 11 title in a row. As a football fan, I’m already yawning today.

Of course it’s not Bayern’s fault that they are so superior in Germany. And of course they shouldn’t lose on purpose.

But if the Champions League is what counts for them in the first place, and the German championship is just a kind of welcome addition, then it would be better to start talking about introducing a European super league right away.
