Europa League: RB Leipzig wins 2-0 at Atalanta Bergamo and is in the semi-finals – football

Leipzig can continue to dream of their first big title – thanks to Christopher Nkunku (24)!

The Saxons won the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals at Atalanta Bergamo 2-0, after the 1-1 win in the first leg a week ago, they confidently advanced to the semi-finals.

For Tedesco, the game at Atalanta is a very special one: Because it is the first competitive game for the Leipzig coach, who was born in the southern Italian city of Rossano, in his native country – and it starts to measure!

Henrichs sends Laimer with a long pass, which has a lot of space on the right side. The Austrian then keeps the overview in the sixteenth and lays across to Nkunku, who netted from eleven meters – the 1:0 (18th) with the first chance!

Nkunku again: For the top striker (contract until 2024) it was the 29th goal in the 43rd competitive game this season. Only on Sunday did he put Leipzig on the road to victory with his goal to make it 1-0 in the league against Hoffenheim (3-0). So it’s no wonder that the French international (2 caps) is in great demand at top European clubs.

After the opening goal, Leipzig has everything under control. The fourth in the Bundesliga is waiting for the hosts to lose the ball in order to switch quickly and doesn’t let anything burn at the back. Compared to the first leg, Leipzig is much more secure with the ball and hardly makes any mistakes.

Atalanta, who threw Bayer Leverkusen out of the competition a round earlier, lacked penetrating power in the game going forward. Except for the conclusion of Zappacosta (6th), RB keeper Gulacsi had almost nothing to do in the first round.

Great excitement then shortly after the restart: First Henrichs deflects a free kick just before the penalty area with his arm – another free kick for Bergamo. Olmo gets the second attempt powerfully. After a tip from the video assistant, referee Lahoz watches the scene himself on the monitor, but decides against a penalty – right!

The street kick is there shortly before the end for Leipzig, Nkunku is hit in the penalty area by Atalanta keeper Musso on the foot. The man who was fouled started himself and finally made the semifinals clear with the 2:0 (87th).

There, the Saxons, who fly back to Leipzig immediately after the final whistle, meet Braga (Portugal) or BVB conquerors Glasgow Rangers (Scotland) – both feasible.
