Gabriella Willems (IJF 46) was eliminated at the 1/8th stage, in the -70 kg category. She lost against a very solid opponent, the Dutch Sanne Van Dijke (Reigning European Champion and 3rd at the Tokyo Olympics). Four clashes between the two judokas and four victories for Van Dijke. Gabriella Willems was surprised on the ground, she lost by ippon on an immobilization. The 24-year-old from Liège is a little disappointed with the result, but happy to be back on the tatami after more than a year without competition following her serious knee injury.
In the 1st round, Gabriella Willems had dismissed the Hungarian Szabina Gercsak (IJF 30) on choke.
