The president of the Egyptian football federation, Gamal Allam, returned to the return play-off for the World Cup disputed by the Pharaohs against Senegal in Dakar on March 29 (1-0). A match that ended on penalties with a qualification for the Lions of Teranga, but which was disrupted by numerous lasers aimed at Mohamed Salah and his teammates. The Egyptian leader therefore explained that the authorities of his country had never asked for the match to be replayed but they wanted Egypt to be qualified on the green carpet.
“We did not ask for the game against Senegal to be replayed. We have requested Egypt’s direct qualification for the World Cup due to the hostile atmosphere in which the match was played.”explained the president of the EFA in remarks relayed by the Egyptian media Kingfoot. His request having failed, it is Senegal who will play the Qatari World Cup next November. The winners of the last CAN are in group Athey will face the Netherlands, Ecuador and Qatar.
