Champions League: Bayern Munich – Villarreal 1: 1 – frustration for Bayern – football

10:55 p.m. The end for FC Bayern in the Champions League! 1-1 against Villarreal, seventh in the Spanish league. Too little after the 0:1 in the first leg.

The Bayern-Aus. Bitter and stupid!

SILLY, because Munich are eliminated as the big favorite against the supposedly lightest opponent. That was just Villareal and not Real, wasn’t it?

BITTERbecause Munich should have closed the sack much earlier.

24:4 shots on goal. Completely superior for 90 minutes (64 percent ball possession). Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (36) only got one shot on goal – and it was in.

89. Minute: Bayern wants to make everything clear in the regular season, conceding a fatal counterattack. Moreno plays a wonderful cross pass to Chukwueze, who equalizes for the Spaniards from a tight angle. 1:1!

At least it looks like it will be extended for a long time. Thanks to an increase in the second half and – again – thanks to Robert Lewandowski (33)!

52. Minute: Bayern conquers the ball in a pressing situation, Müller plays to Lewandowski on the edge of the penalty area. The pole finishes flat from the turn – inside post and in! The important 1-0 for Bayern.

Half the stadium is already dreaming of extra time and the semifinals against Jürgen Klopp (54). In the semi-finals, a win would probably have resulted in the mega cracker against Liverpool, who won their first leg at Benfica Lisbon 3-1…

The bitterly stupid end. Who messed it up?

► Sure, Lewandowski took the lead. With his first shot on goal. Until then, there was little to see from the goalscorer.

► Trainer Julian Nagelsmann (34) tried it tactically with the triple chain. No wrong decision, the German champions were safe in the back. Only: For Nagelsmann it is a serious setback. Ko in the DFB-Pokal and in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Not enough for Bayern claims.

► None were really bad – but none showed an outstanding Mia-san-mir feeling either.

Nagelsmann on Amazon: “In terms of tactics and intensity, it was definitely one of our best games in recent months. Unlike in the first leg, Villarreal never went out from behind. We have to make it 2-0, instead we’re out of order for once and he doesn’t even hit the ball properly. Very bitter.”

Stunned on the pitch – and also in the stands. Ex-President Uli Hoeneß (70) steams off just a few minutes after the final whistle at 11:03 p.m. His successor Herbert Hainer (67) left the stadium without a word.

Thomas Mueller (32): “Extremely bitter. We played a good, committed game. We pressed, pressed, pressed. After this game, we have to get through deservedly. Accepting defeat today…I don’t know what to say either.”

Klub-Boss Oliver Kahn (52): “More commitment and more will than the team has shown is hardly possible. There are more pleasant teams to play against. That defensive bar…I don’t even know what kind of system they played. We could have created and taken more chances. But would have, would have, bike chain. We are now eliminated here in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. That’s why we’re not going to burst into tears here. We have the chance again next year.”

Even before the game, Bayern provide oddities…

Kahn confusion to Lewandowski

Bayern boss Oliver Kahn (52) speaks to “Amazon Prime” before the game about Robert Lewandowski (33).

Kahn first clear: “We have a contract with Lewandowski that goes on for another season (…) I just said that we definitely have Robert Lewandowski for another season. (…). We’re not crazy and we’re not discussing a change from a player who scores 30 to 40 goals with us every season.”

But then he rows back!

Moderator Sebastian Hellmann (54) digs deeper: “I don’t think the news that Lewandowski is staying is bad.”

Kahn counters: “That was suggestive.” So an assumption!

That leaves the experts puzzled. Hellmann, when Kahn is gone: “Did I misunderstand Lewandowski? He said he would stay for one more season.”

Matthias Sammer replies: “We would have corrected you.”

The solution to the riddle: Kahn probably just wanted to say that they don’t like to let Lewandowski go. But he doesn’t want to give any guarantee that he won’t leave Bavaria after all.
