Biguá tied the series against Olimpia in a match with an embarrassing closing

Biguá beat Olimpia this Monday 68-67 matching the series that both dispute for the quarterfinals of the Uruguayan Basketball League.

Olimpia had won last Thursday by 85-84, so both games were defined in the last breath.

Biguá, who is the defending champion of the tournament, suffered again the absence of Donald Sims, his star player.

This time Pato started at full speed with a crushing 22-11 in the first quarter.

Luis Santos, with 25 points and 12 rebounds, was the best exponent of Biguá who had his captain Santiago Vidal just two minutes on the court.

However, in the last stretch of the match, Olimpia staged a wild onslaught that took him to the final seconds with chances to win the match.

That’s when it happened an unusual event: Abel Agarbado tried a triple that hit the rim and the shot clock did not drop from 24 to 14 seconds. But when Nicolás Catalá made a second attempt, the horn only sounded at the end of 24 seconds. The clock was marking a second to play and as the ball hit above the acrylic, the judges Adrián Vázquez, Ricardo Olivera and Enrique Ferreira gave Biguá the replacement.

Olympia’s coach Gerardo Jauri exploded at the inexplicable situation and entered the field to protest.

Also a lot of individuals came down to the field.

Santos and Loriente got into an argument with Olimpia’s physical trainer.

There were totally outraged fans who were contained by other fans who wanted things not to go too far.

After a while of talks and protests, the referees went to review the play to make sure of the mistake made by the control desk.

So they decided to give Olimpia the replacement with a possession time of 2.8 seconds.

With the players already totally cold due to the waiting time, Abel Agarbado tried a distant triple because Biguá had a foul to hit. He was not right and so Pato took the victory that stretched the series to at least a fourth game.
