The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz surprisingly won the Miami Open of tennis professionals.

The 18-year-old defeated the number 6 seeded Norwegian Casper Ruud 7: 5 and 6: 4 in the final on Sunday and celebrated his first victory in a Masters 1000 tournament and his third tournament victory overall on the ATP tour.

Alcaraz had already knocked out last year’s winner Hubert Hurkacz from Poland in the semifinals of the hard court tournament in Florida, which is worth around 8.6 million US dollars. Especially in the second set, Ruud rarely found any means against the powerful game of number 16 in the world rankings.

The 23-year-old Ruud missed his seventh ATP title in his first 1000 final. In the world rankings, the Scandinavian will still reach a personal career high in seventh on Monday.
