Alaior, capital of grassroots basketball in the Balearic Islands

Alaior will be the capital of Balearic grassroots basketball During this Holy Week, on the occasion of the celebration of the 18th edition of the Alaior City Tournament, which will have a record participation between April 13 and 16, taking place in the municipalities of Alaior, Maó and Es Mercadal. After two years conditioned by the pandemic, the Jovent de Alaior, organizing and promoting club, resumes an event that crosses borders and will feature four English teams in all categories in contention, ranging from children’s and cadet schools, male and female.

In total, they have registered for the 2022 edition of the Ciutat d’Alaior Tournament 62 teams, with a wide representation from Catalonia (26), Mallorca (14), Menorca (15) and the presence of a Valencian team and four English. Illustrious such as Valencia Basket, Joventut de Badalona, ​​Girona or Cornellà, will share the poster with Montuïri, Sineu, Petra, Boscos, Alcázar, Ciutadella, Es Castell, Ponent and the hosts of Jovent de Alaior, an emblem of youth basketball. In total, 192 matches are planned, something unprecedented in Menorca.

The Basketball Federation of the Balearic Islands and the College of Referees of the Catalan Basketball Federation, which will carry out an internship on the island, will be in charge of managing the refereeing work in an appointment that was presented in society this Friday and which is organized by Club Bàsquet Jovent, in addition to the sponsorship of the Fundació Foment de Turisme de Menorca and Alaior City Council, together with the support of the Municipal Sports Service of Alaior City Council, the Insular Delegation of the FBIB, the Catalan Basketball Federation and other collaborators.
