3,500 young athletes gathered in Normandy for the 2022 Gymnasiades

Two years before the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Normandy Region will host the gymnasiades, an event that takes place every two years and is similar to the school Olympic and Paralympic Games. 3,500 high school students aged between 15 and 18, coaches and referees, will be present in Normandy from May 14 to 22, 2022 to take part in this sporting, cultural and educational project led by theNational Union of School Sports (UNSS), with the support of the Interministerial Delegation for Major International Sporting Events (DIGES). All of the events in the twenty disciplines on offer will be mixed, and for the first time in the history of these school Olympic Games, three of them will be open to people with reduced mobility: athletics, judo and swimming. Several emblematic sites in Normandy including Le Havre, Rouen, Pont-Audemer, Val-de-Reuil, Caen and Deauville will host numerous events and festivities.

2 disciplines in Le Havre

The city of Le Havre will host 2 disciplines: “breaking” and 3×3 basketball from May 16 to 21, 2022.

Le breaking

Very spectacular, this activity is a dance from hiphop culture. This discipline has experienced a real expansion in recent years like the various urban practices and will appear on the program of the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.
Competition dates: from Monday May 16 to Saturday May 21, 2022 (except Wednesday May 18, 2022) – Pôle Simone-Veil

3×3 basketball

This discipline derived from basketball also comes from urban practices. Present for the first time at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, this sport is a great success. The French Basketball Federation has decided to develop this practice and make it accessible thanks to an ambitious development plan. For this competition, four ephemeral grounds will be set up within a village made up of stands, entertainment and bleachers.
