2. Bundesliga: Two own goals by Werder Bremen in the 2:3 against Holstein Kiel – Bundesliga

The Bremen City Hall balcony could have been made pretty for the promotion celebrations – but then Werder shot themselves in the 2: 3 against Kiel…

The own goal shock! Bremen lead 2-0 in a game in which nothing can really burn. Then you help the opponent with two own goals – and concede the knockout just before the end.

Werder loses the championship lead to Schalke and now has to tremble again for promotion. The last two opponents are called Aue (A) and Regensburg (H). But the fans had not necessarily identified Kiel as a huge stumbling block beforehand.

A small consolation for Bremen coach Ole Werner (33): His ex-club Kiel finally saved the day.

At Werder, the triumph team from 4: 1 against Schalke is allowed to play again. Werner before kick-off at Sky: “On the one hand, the boys deserve it. On the other hand, we don’t have that many options in terms of personnel.”

Around 2000 fans welcome the team bus when it arrives at the Weser Stadium, giving the pros goosebumps. Werner: “An extraordinary moment. That can inspire us.” Do it – at least in the beginning…

2. Minute: A cross from Agu extends Weiser in the penalty area with the heel. Kiel defender Thesker misses the ball, Füllkrug is there – and sinks from five meters to make it 1-0. The Werder striker’s 17th goal of the season.

23. Minute: After a handball by Lorenz, video evidence shows a penalty. Ducksch makes his 20th goal of the season, sunk flat on the left. 2-0

Kiel tries, but doesn’t have the means to become really dangerous. Werder has to help with an own goal… Füllkrug unhappily deflects a harmless shot from Wriedt under his own crossbar – 2:1 (45+2).

Nevertheless, the Bremen fans among the 42,100 spectators have a good feeling, Werder are too dominant. Agu (51st), Bittencourt (54th) and Ducksch (62nd) have great chances to finally put the lid on it. But then…

71. Minute: After a cross from van den Bergh, Kiel striker Wriedt and Werder defender Jung duel for the ball. The ball then flies from Jung’s calf into the goal – the second own goal, 2:2.

At Werder the head starts to work, at Kiel it suddenly runs like clockwork.

85 minutes: Pavlenka is only able to fend off an Arslan shot. But then Friedl falls asleep and lets Korb push the 2:3 over the line.

Werder’s lead in the table is gone – and the great promotion euphoria too…
