The Chinese badminton team has recently arrived in Germany to participate in the German Badminton Open, which starts on March 8. After the German Open, the Chinese badminton team will also participate in the All England Badminton Open and the Swiss Open in the next two weeks.

These three European competitions will kick off the half-year overseas competition and training camp of the Chinese badminton team.

In the past two years, due to the impact of the epidemic, the Chinese badminton team has played very few times each year, which has led to the inability of players’ points, especially the points of young players, to affect the growth of young players. This year, the Chinese badminton team decided to allow as many players as possible to participate in the competition. To this end, the Chinese badminton team set up a training base in Chiang Mai, Thailand. They can go to Thailand to participate in training camps between foreign competitions and no longer return to China for 21-day quarantine.

Zhang Jun, chairman of the Chinese Badminton Association, said, “This year is the first year of the Paris Olympic cycle, and it is also the year when the team initially establishes players and combinations. Players must perform and prove themselves through a whole year of competitions and improve their world rankings.” Many European and American countries have given up the policy of active epidemic prevention. Zhang Jun said that Guoyu will continue to strictly implement the epidemic prevention policy when training and competing outside, and strive to ensure that the team has zero infection when fighting outside.

At present, the ranking of men’s doubles and men’s singles among the five individual events of Guoyu is the lowest in team history. Zhang Jun said: “I hope that by the end of this year, at least 3 to 4 people or combinations of our five individual events will be able to enter the top 30 in the world ranking. In this way, when the Olympic points competition starts on May 1, 2023, There will be more players who can compete for Olympic berths.”

After the three European tournaments in March, the team returned to Asia to prepare for the Korea Open in Chiang Mai in early April, followed by the Tom Yu Cup, Thailand Open in May, Indonesia Masters, Indonesia Open in June and Malaysia Open, Malaysia Masters, Singapore Open and other events in July. This year’s Badminton World Championships will be unveiled in Tokyo on August 21. Guoyu will train and compete outside the Hangzhou Asian Games in September this year.
