Roman Abramovich sanctioned by British government

Roman Abramovich wants to sell Chelsea. Now, however, the British government has imposed sanctions on the Russian oligarch. However, there are exceptions.

The Russian owner of FC Chelsea, Roman Abramovich, was sanctioned by the British government on Thursday. The financial assets of the 55-year-old will be frozen. In addition, transactions with British individuals and companies are prohibited. He was also given a travel and transport ban.

But: Abramovich receives a special license to work with Chelsea. However, the sale of the club will be suspended for the time being. Last week he announced the “blues” in the wake of the Russian attack on the Ukraine to deliver.

Day ticket sales must be stopped

Chelsea fans are also affected by the sanctions. Because the club is not allowed to sell new tickets for the time being. Season ticket holders can go further into the stadium, their tickets remain valid.

All jobs are also secured. However, as the owner, Abramovich is not allowed to use the new money Association earn, which is why sales of day tickets for individual games have to be stopped.

Abramovich has been the owner since 2003. The Russian faces a billion-dollar loss because he has to get rid of the club quickly. Abramovich had expected a sale of around three billion pounds (about 3.6 billion euros). Most recently, however, it was said from England that none of the interested parties wanted to pay this sum. A purchase price of only two billion pounds (around 2.4 billion euros) seems more realistic (Here you can read more about it).
