KOMPAS.com – World number one men’s doubles Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo withdrew from the 2022 Korea Open which will take place on 5-10 April 2022.

The two-time All England champion is also confirmed to miss the 2022 Asian Championships scheduled to be held in Manila, Philippines, on April 26-1 May 2022.

Their absence from the Korea Open and the Asian Championships was caused by Marcus Fernaldi Gideon who had to go on the operating table.

“Based on observations and x-rays, Marcus has a small bone growth that shouldn’t be removed ankle right and left. This is quite disturbing appearance because it causes pain,” said Head of the Development and Achievement Division (Head of Binpres) PP PBSI, Rionny Mainaky.

“After consulting with the PBSI doctor, Prof. dr. Nicolaas C. Budhiparama, he was advised to perform surgery in the near future,” said Rionny in a written statement received. Kompas.com.

Rionny Mainaky hopes Marcus’ surgery goes well and his recovery goes optimally.

“Because of this operation, The Minions (Marcus/Kevin’s nickname) will miss at least the next two tournaments, the Korea Open and the Asian Championships,” said Rionny.

“We hope Marcus’ operation goes smoothly, the recovery process is maximal, and he can quickly return to competing. It won’t be too long of a absence because Marcus / Kevin are one of our mainstays,” Rionny hoped.
