Nievenheimer judoka becomes West German champion in the weight class up to 50 kilograms. His club colleague Robin Foss (43 kg) comes in seventh.

(sit) After a long tournament break due to corona, the Judo Club Nievenheim did well as the organizer of the West German Championship in the U15 age group. A hygiene concept coordinated with the association made it possible to hold the title fights in the triple gymnasium of the comprehensive school in Nievenheim, while complying with all necessary measures. More than 230 judoka from all parts of North Rhine-Westphalia were at the start. “It was good to be able to host the North Rhine-Westphalian judoka again,” said JC chairman Christian Hoven. Most of the titles remain in the Düsseldorf district (8), while the Cologne district celebrated seven first places.

Two athletes were qualified for the Judo Club Nievenheim: First, Robin Foss went to the mat in the weight class up to 43 kilograms. He fought his way to the quarterfinals, then lost twice and finished the tournament in seventh place. His club colleague Alexander Utczyk had an ideal day in the weight class up to 50 kilograms: after four impressive victories, he returned to Nievenheim as the West German champion.

Regular training is also progressing at JC Nievenheim. “We got through the pandemic well. Our new offer, ‘Taiso’, a special form of functional gymnastics, is also well received,” says Hoven and immediately adds: “We also still have space on the mat. Now is a good time to start or get back into judo. Sport is very important right now.”

Info Training Mondays and Fridays from 4.45pm to 6pm (6-9 years), 6pm to 7.30pm (10-16 years) and 7.30pm to 9pm (from 16 years). If you want, you can contact info@judo-nievenheim.de.
