Independiente Medellín confirms change of venue for Copa Sudamericana 2022 matches | South American Cup

bad news for him Deportivo Independiente Medellín in the Copa Sudamericana 2022, the Antioquia team failed to reach an agreement with the organizers of two concerts that prevent them from using the Atanasio Girardot stadium and the matches against Internacional from Brazil and Guaireña from Paraguay, for the third and sixth dates respectively of group E, must be played at the Hernán Ramírez Villegas stadium in Pereira.

“We are sad, the assembly is very big and they would have very few days left for the assembly. We have to take that plan B, we are going to Pereira for two games of the Copa Sudamericana and we will only play in Medellín against October 9. We exhausted all the resources, but it was impossible to make another decision”, declared the executive president of Independiente Medellín, Daniel Ossa in dialogue with ‘Múnera Eastman Radio’.

The club had stated days ago, the alternative plan they had in the face of the impossibility of using the Atanasio Girardot stadium. The sports stage would be busy for Maluma’s concerts on April 30 and ‘El Choli’ (Reggaeton festival) on May 27, which requires several days to assemble and disassemble the platforms.

Regarding the possibilities of playing in the Envigado, Itagüí (Ditaires) and Rionegro stadiums, the Antioquia club encountered several drawbacks, according to the requirements of Conmebol. “In Envigado we couldn’t play because of the lighting fixtures, in Rionegro because of the height and in Ditaires, they only have 800 spectators left. The minimum is 10 thousand, they have 9,200. They did not accept it. We exhausted the resources as far as we could,” said the manager.

Regarding the possibilities for the red fan to go to Pereira for these meetings, the president commented that “we are going to be prudent with prices and with the Highway Police, we will look for a caravan with the DIM fans, so that get to Pereira quickly and be able to return to the city”.

Finally, the leader stated that “we are glad that there are international events in the city, but it would be very good if Medellín had another stage beyond the Atanasio. This city has grown and has to grow in sports and cultural scenarios”.

DIM had already moved the venue to face matches in Conmebol Tournaments, it was in the 2010 Copa Libertadores, where the powerful faced Corinthians from Brazil in Bogotá and against Racing de Montevideo in Manizales.
