New York millionaire murdered after arguing over a golf tournament

Kevin Somers, 45, was chief caddie at the exclusive “Maidstone Club” in East Hampton, New York, was strangled by a subordinate following an argument while watching a golf game on television, according to police reports. .

Known as “caddy master” at the Long Island club, Somers was found dead at the home of co-worker Marc Dern, 34, on February 5.

Five days later he was arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter, Suffolk police said.

Prosecutors in the case mentioned that they were both drinking while watching a golf tournament on television, when they had an “altercation” after the program ended, according to the Southampton Press.

Upon allegedly punching Somers in the face, he began to choke him, breaking a small bone in the victim’s throat that suffocated him, prosecutors said.

He then left Somers on the front porch for three hours before calling 911, telling police he felt his friend’s body go limp as he suffocated.

Dern’s attorney, John Ray, disagreed with the prosecutor’s claim that Somers’ body had been left on the porch, as emergency services said the body was hot when they arrived.
