Joshua Kimmich began his career at FC Bayern as a right-back, but moved permanently to central midfield under Niko Kovac, where he developed into an absolute regular player and top performer. For the TV expert Jens Lehmann, however, the 27-year-old is not a “real six”.
Kimmich is considered the undisputed midfield boss at Bayern. In yesterday’s 4-2 defeat against Bochum, the German national player didn’t really present himself in top form either. While he was still actively involved in making it 1-0 with a fine through ball to Coman, he had big problems in the game against the ball and couldn’t really do anything to counter the Bochumers.
The 27-year-old acted as the only defensive midfielder against Bochum. From Jens Lehmann’s point of view, this was a serious mistake by Julian Nagelsmann. Reason: The 52-year-old does not see a real six in Kimmich.
“Kimmich has his strengths more in the offensive”
In the program “Die Lage der Liga” Lehmann commented on “BILD TV” as follows: “He plays as a six, but I don’t know if that’s a real six.” The former Bundesliga professional sees Kimmich more an attacking-oriented midfielder: “Joshua Kimmich is a good player, but his strengths lie more in offense than in defence. I know other sixes who were more defensive and a little more aware.”
