The organizers announced the end of the Cologne Open on Friday. The loss of a shareholder caused “instability” that could not be offset by the corona pandemic, according to the statement signed by tournament director Oliver Müller. Therefore, the license was sold with the consent of the women’s organization WTA.
The tournament was originally supposed to take place in 2020. But both two years ago and in 2021 it fell victim to the coronavirus pandemic.
This year, the event of the WTA 250 category was planned from May 14th to 21st and thus directly before the French Open.
Now she no longer appears in the tournament calendar.
