Dirk Nowitzki: Concerns about the ex-basketball star – mentor Geschwindner: “He doesn’t have to tell” – basketball

The appearance at the NBA All-Star Game last weekend caused some concerns among fans of Germany’s basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki (43). It was clear that he was limping and in pain.

In the podcast “Einfach mal Luppen” with Felix and Toni Kroos, he recently announced that he was not doing well physically. However, his mentor, Holger Geschwindner (76), does not see the situation as dramatic as it seems to be on the outside.

In “Sport1” Geschwindner explains why no one has to worry about Nowitzki!

Dirk Nowitzki played for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA from 1999 to 2019. His greatest success: the championship in 2011. However, the last two years of his career were marked by major injury problems.

Nowitzki in the podcast “Einfach mal Luppen”: “Sometimes I think about whether the last two years have really been worth it. Of course I still had a few nice highlights, but in the end we weren’t good in terms of sport. I couldn’t move properly anymore.”

And further: “My foot is really bad, there are days when I don’t move well at all.”

His appearance at the NBA Allstar Games fit these words. With a stooped gait, slow and careful steps and limping, he stepped on.

His longtime mentor Holger Geschwindner, who trained Nowitzki in Würzburg, doesn’t think Nowitzki’s physical problems are serious: “He has a foot injury, but he’s healthy and alert. It’s nothing more than trifles,” said Geschwindner in Sport 1.

He asks, “Just because he’s a little out of round? How can someone who has played at the level for 25 years not have anything? How is that supposed to work?”

For Nowitzki’s remarks in “Einfach mal Luppen” Geschwindner has no understanding: “He doesn’t have to tell stuff like that.”

It remains to be hoped that Nowitzki’s foot pain is really just “trifles” …
