Despite the blizzard unleashed by the video in which Kurt Zouma mistreated his cats, West Ham manager David Moyes has called up the French defender for Sunday’s Premier League match in Leicester. West Ham, however, is obviously not willing to give up the player. «There are different points of view as to whether or not he should be called up but for me he must be available», said Moyes, «also because the club has already intervened very quickly. His actions were terrible but he totally regretted it and in life you can sometimes be forgiven ».
“We will send him to the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) who will help him, just as if someone had committed a crime of drunk driving. We hope that those people improve and never do it again ».
A choice that will most likely lead again many fans to challenge the player as it had already happened in Tuesday’s match against Watford when the defender was sent on the field a few hours after the outbreak of the controversy.
In any case, the troubles for Zouma and West Ham are not over: in addition to having lost the sponsorship of Adidas and (for the club) that of Vitality, having communicated that the amount of the fine is equal to two weeks of salary has in fact made public his monthly salary unleashing possible retaliations from his teammates. In fact, Zouma turned out to be the highest paid player in the club and, according to the English media, the other teammates would be ready to ask for increases from the English company.
Meanwhile, the number of people who have signed the online petition asking for legal action against the player continues to grow: at present there are already 325 thousand signatories, but for now the authorities do not seem to have made a decision on the matter. According to the British media, the RSPCA, which took the two cats away from the player’s home, is conducting a thorough and rapid investigation, and has also heard the same player. If he is prosecuted and convicted in the UK, Zouma could be banned from owning animals and he could even be jailed, although the latter option is unlikely.
Brigitte Bardot intervened on the case: “The images have deeply scandalized me, this big boy who attacks a small cat, kicks the animal like a ball, under the laughter of the person who is filming, all this is shocking and absolute cowardice, ”said the former actress. His Foundation, an animal rights organization based in Paris, has filed a complaint through French lawyers in a court in the French capital: in theory, under the strengthened animal welfare laws introduced last year, the footballer could risk up to a maximum four years in prison in his native France.
