Andreas Fötschl is a fixture in football in Salzburg. After numerous positions as a player, the 48-year-old is also gaining a great deal of experience as a trainer with amateur football.
Fötschl, who looked after Liefering, Bergheim, Eugendorf, SV Grödig, SAK and most recently ASV Salzburg, is to lead the regional league team Bischofshofen to the Admiral 2nd league in the next two or three years. If it is up to the prominent and behavioral BSK boss Patrick Reiter, then the Bischofshofen team should play in the Bundesliga in 2024.
The former judo world and European champion sees the Pongauer sporty, economically and in terms of infrastructure ready for professional football soon. Neo-coach Fötschl curbs his chairman’s euphoria: “We are still miles away from the second division,” the former defender told the “Salzburger Nachrichten”.
Fötschl, who speaks of a small but qualitatively strong squad, would like to reorganize the team in the summer. Currently, homecomers Mohamed Khalil and Janpaul Costalunga are the only newcomers. “We have a long list of kickers from the area in our sights and hope that we can lure some to Bischofshofen,” explains Fötschl, who is aiming to win the state cup in his first season as BSK coach.
The sports club Bischofshofen wants to get started in a new sports facility
If the Regionalliga West is reintroduced as a 3rd division in Salzburg in 2023/24, then the BSK would definitely like to get involved. In two and a half years, the city of 10,000 is also to receive a new sports facility.
“Several teams are of course pursuing this goal. It will not be easy to get into this league,” says Fötschl to “SN” and the UEFA A license coach continues: “From the idea of under the Regionalliga West to the Regionalliga Salzburg I don’t think so. For me, the Salzburg league with 16 clubs should clearly be reintroduced under the western league. Anything else is bad for football.”
