12 badminton players go to Uganda

On the sidelines of the African team badminton championship, 12 badminton players, including six boys and six girls, will travel to Uganda this Friday, February 11.

More specifically, they will participate in the Thomas and Uber Cup tournament, an intercontinental competition.

“The boys will participate in the Thomas cup tournament while the Uber cup is reserved for girls. The winner will participate in the grand finals which will take place in May this year in Thailand. It is good to know that in the past, we have won two medals for girls in this same tournament,” said the president of the Mauritius Badminton Association, Nundah Sharma.

Asked for a reaction concerning this tournament, Melvin Appiah, one of the participants, assured that the team is very confident in the idea of winning the medals.

“The competition will be very tough, but we will fight for medals. We trained very well, although the Covid 19 came to play the spoilsport. This is my second participation in the Thomas and Uber Cup and I don’t want to go home empty-handed,” said badminton player Melvin Appiah.
