Wout van Aert was already wearing his Belgian champion’s jersey when he told him to go to a chip shop. Van Aert wanted to celebrate winning the Belgian cyclo-cross title with a pack of fries. And of course he kept his word.

A good tasty pack of fries, that was so long ago, said Wout van Aert after his victory at the BK cyclo-cross in the mixed zone at the military base in Lombardsijde. Van Aert said it with a smile, but he clearly meant it.

And, yes, later that evening fries were on the menu. It is De Bosrand snack bar in Bruges that Van Aert and his company were allowed to receive later that evening. The Facebook page of the chip shop shows how the Jumbo-Visma bus was parked nearby.

“A champion celebrates his championship with fries at De Bosrand snack bar”, it is proudly written. And of course a picture of Wout van Aert in the chip shop should not be missing.
