City mourning was proclaimed for the deaths of the two Victorians Salvatore Barca and Andrea Palacino. The mayor of Vittoria, Francesco Aiello, with a special ordinance proclaimed the city mourning for the day of Wednesday 19 January 2022, on the occasion of the funeral of the two Vittoriesi, Barca and Palacino, who died in an autonomous road accident during their work.
The funeral of Salvatore Barca, 58 years old, will be celebrated at 11 am in the Madonna delle Lacrime Church.
Those of Andrea Palacino, 46 years old, in the afternoon, at 3 pm in the Resurrection Church.
The accident took place in Calabria in the night between Saturday and Sunday. The tragedy occurred on the A2, the Mediterranean motorway, in the municipality of Altilia, near Cosenza. For the two there was no escape: due to causes under investigation, the truck on which they were traveling broke through the guardrail and fell into a cliff for about sixty meters.
During the flight of the vehicle, the two Sicilians were thrown out of the cockpit. The vehicle, following the impact, caught fire and was completely destroyed.
