Virton takes a big slap for the premiere of Correa

The good news of the day is that Anthony Sadin has returned to his best level. A bit in difficulty at the end of the year, the doorman from Virton proved himself beyond reproach, making half a dozen high-class saves. Fortunately for the Excelsior who was able to avoid a real correction on the occasion of the premiere of Pablo Correa. But with four goals conceded and two sent off (Rizzo then Doué in the second half), the punishment is already painful enough, and erasing the effects will probably not be done in a jiffy.

Already led 0-2 in the quarter of an hour, the Virtonais never had a voice in the matter, conceding a total of eight clear possibilities in addition to four goals. Eaten in a midfield where Guillaume Gillet, one of the Waesland rookies, walked around, powerless in front, where Anne was one of the few to try something, too far apart between the lines, regularly hesitating between pressing towards the front and a more cautious positioning, the Green and Whites appeared disconcerted and were only able to worry the opposing goalkeeper on two timid occasions. Clearly indicating that they have clearly not yet acquired the principles of their new coach who had chosen to align his four transfer window reinforcements. One of them, William Remy, uncertain, had to throw in the towel as soon as he warmed up and gave up his place in central defense to Rizzo. The other three – Mendy at left-back, Mbombo and Sidibé on the attacking flanks – sank with the whole team, but will have to be reviewed in another context.

After ending 2021 with an unexpected split with the leader, Virton begins 2022 with its heaviest setback of the season. The only consolation: Lommel, the closest competitor, also lost and the gap therefore remains two points…
