Paris pays homage once again to the genius of Virgil Abloh, the designer who died prematurely at the age of 41. During the Paris Fashion Week showed the Fall-Winter 2022-23 collection by Louis Vuitton, the octave (and last) drawn by Virgil Abloh. A show full of artistic performances and metaphysical references entitled “Louis Dreamhouse“, the house of dreams and ideas Temple tile it is tinged with sky blue and houses a sunken house with a red roof and a lit chimney, a giant bed and a dining table. Between acrobatic performances and the orchestra, Virgil Abloh’s latest collection is full of layers and different cultural references: from baseball caps to angel wings, from sweatshirts with graffiti to white tulle skirts, to balaclavas with ears . The models are angels, brides, travelers or dandies.

The parade Louis Vuitton is a complex and metaphysical show, created based on the full-bodied notes written by Virgil Abloh before he died. The models come out of a “house of ideas” reminiscent of illustrations in children’s books. They dance, recline on the ground, jump on the roof: only after the artistic performance does the actual parade begin, the sum of the artistic heritage of a designer who in just ten years has changed the present and future of fashion.

The collection moves on two axes: streetwear and formal clothing, revised and corrected in the manner of Virgil Abloh. On the one hand there are sweatshirts with graffiti prints, bomber jackets, ripped jeans or with the monogram, in addition to the ubiquitous sneakers. On the other hand, the models interpret contemporary dandies with elegant emerald, amethyst or coffee brown suits, which advance carrying bouquets of flowers under the arm, and succumb to the charm of lamé and sequins.

The protagonists are the accessories: come on balacalava (the fashion obsession of 2022) to hats with ears, up to luggage that lights up with neon colors. Pop handbags in the shape of a paint can also appear. The stylistic code that pervades the collection is that of contamination: between high and low, between masculine and feminine, between elegance and street style.

Baseball caps are combined with elegant coats, a transparent veil is worn with American college varsity jackets, the floral pattern reinterprets denim and plague doctor masks appear on elegant total white suits.

But the most emblematic – and surprising – releases are those in total white, which close the show: models with wings like an angel, in elegant waistcoats and sneakers, or with white tulle skirts and veils on the head, like brides. Between emotion and ovation, the models hug in a last embrace in memory of the deceased creative director.
