Victory for the soul – sport

With a clear and confident 92:70 (47:33) win at newly promoted MLP Academics Heidelberg, the basketball players of FC Bayern Munich defended their lead in the Bundesliga. Augustine Rubit was Bayern’s best thrower with 19 points, all of which he scored in the first two quarters.

After their first Euroleague victory ever at Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz (84:77), with which they also won the direct comparison in front of more than 5000 spectators on Friday evening, FC Bayern was only 44 hours after the game in Spain on Sunday next premiere: Because the cup winner made a guest appearance for the first time in a BBL duel in Heidelberg. And the favourite, who almost lost the first round game in the Audi Dome against Heidelberg, started the game with a 12-0 series in front of the 500 admitted spectators. However, the guests did not remain so concentrated, Heidelberg caught up and went into the first quarter break only one point behind (17:18). Heidelberg’s resistance didn’t last long after that, however, as the Munich defense got a better grip on the many one-on-one situations. “A good day and a very good game, we played as a team on offense and defense,” said Bayern coach Andrea Trichieri at Magentasport.

After their success in Heidelberg, the Munich team did not return to their homeland, but went directly to France, where the Euroleague catch-up game at Asvel Villeurbanne is on the program on Tuesday evening (9 p.m.). Trinchieri’s team can further improve their Euroleague record of 9:11 victories there – and as eleventh in the table keep the current twelfth at a distance.
