Vanzeir will cheer when he scores against Genk: “Give people a close call”

Dante Vanzeir will face ‘his’ KRC Genk with Union on Sunday. An important duel for the attacker, who played as a youth footballer for the Limburgers, but was ultimately not considered good enough and had to leave.

Vanzeir was known as a particularly great talent, but there was no breakthrough, partly due to injuries. Loans to Beerschot and KV Mechelen also did not help to convince the staff at Genk. He left the club through a loophole and signed with Union.

“After his loan to Mechelen, he was even sent to the Genk C-core, with Covid as an excuse. That was hard, even a bit disrespectful,” says father Michel in The last news. “When he was finally allowed to leave, I also wanted to cut all ties with Genk. Not that Genk made it difficult in those negotiations, Dante did not leave with a bad feeling,” it sounds.

So there doesn’t seem to be any real feelings of revenge. Not against the club, but maybe against a few people within the club. “I think he wants to give those who didn’t believe in him a piece of cake. That’s his character, he draws strength from that,” concludes father Michel Vanzeir.
