Trainer legend Gerd Schädlich is dead (✝69)

The longtime successful coach Gerd Schädlich died at the age of 69. Schädlich is considered an icon of the East, trained, among other things, Erzgebirge Aue and Chemnitzer FC.

German football mourns the loss of Gerd Schädlich. The longtime trainer, who among other things at the FSV Zwickau, Erzgebirge Aue and the Chemnitz FC had worked, died on Saturday night at the age of 69, as the CFC announced in the evening, citing Schädlich’s family.

“It is incredibly sad and so difficult to find words at the moment or to grasp the scope for us,” said Chemnitz CEO Romy Polster. “Today we lost a really great footballer, person and friend.”

“A Laborer Before the Lord”

“I am deeply sad, bow deeply to Gerd. He was a worker in front of the Lord. Aue, Zwickau and Chemnitz would not be what they are without him. My condolences and that of our association to the Schädlich family, all relatives and friends It’s an unbelievable pain,” quoted the Dresden portal Tag24 Erzgebirge Aues President Helge Leonhardt.

Schäddlich had been the coach of FC Erzgebirge for eight years. He led FSV Zwickau and Aue to the 2nd Bundesliga. Most recently he was coach of Chemnitzer FC. As a player, Schädlich played for FC Karl-Marx-Stadt in the 1970s before he had to end his career due to injury problems.
