The 2023 Tour de France is taking shape and the second stage of the gala round will end in San Sebastian on July 2 of next year, as reported by EITB on Thursday. After this year’s edition, starting in Copenhagen (Denmark), the Basque Country will take over next year’s Grand Départ.

Bilbao will host the initial stage and the second would connect Vitoria-Gasteiz with Donostia-San Sebastián on a route that will be fully revealed next Wednesday, January 26. In addition, the third would also cross Gipuzkoa, since according to the same sources it would start from Amorebieta-Etxano and is scheduled to end in Baiona.

In this way, the gala round will return to the Gipuzkoan capital 31 years later. In 1992 Donostia hosted the start, a prologue won by Miguel Indurain. The next day the race started and came from San Sebastián with the victory of Frenchman Dominique Arnould. On this occasion, it is not yet confirmed what kind of stages Euskadi will host this time. Four years later, in 1996, the Tour arrived in Pamplona and also had an arrival in Hendaye.

When it was announced that the Basque Country would host the start of the 110th edition of the Tour de France, Jaizkibel was named as a possible port of passage before reaching the Gipuzkoan capital, but the details will be given next week.
