Tom Brady is the unfinished business of Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes he has a near-perfect record in the playoffs. And in that “almost” only two words: Tom Brady.

Mahomes, the electrifying Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, has set countless records in just four years as a starter, but one unfinished business is beating Brady in the playoffs.

Mahomes’ postseason record is 7-2 and those two losses have come to the 44-year-old veteran.

Mahomes and Brady keep their teams alive in the Divisional Round. Patrick and the Chiefs will host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night, while the “GOAT” and the champion Bucs will do the same against the Los Angeles Rams.

And that nobody a possible third meeting between Mahomes and Brady in the Super Bowl, as it happened in February of last year, when Tampa Bay defeated Kansas City 31-9.

The rivalry between these two quarterbacks began in the 2018 Playoffs, when the New England Patriots defeated the Chiefs 37-31 at Arrowhead, in a game that needed extra time to define the AFC champion.

It was not the best performance for Brady, who passed for 348 yards, with a touchdown and two interceptions. But in overtime he commanded as only he knows a scoring offensive series of 13 plays and 75 yards in 4:52, which Rex Burkhead ended with a touchdown run to seal the win for the Pats and the ninth trip to the Super Bowl for Brady and coach Bill Belichick.

Mahomes, who had thrown three touchdown passes, no longer touched the ball in overtime and his extraordinary campaign ended there.

It wouldn’t be the last time these two great quarterbacks would meet in the playoffs.

Brady signed with the Buccaneers and made them the first team to play a Super Bowl in their own stadium. The rival? Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Unfortunately for Mahomes, his offensive line suffered some losses and the substitutes could not with an aggressive defense of the Bucs, who sacked him three times and hit him nine other times, in a nightmarish night for the so-called “Showtime”. Prior to Super Bowl XLV, Mahomes spoke of his admiration for Brady.

“If you’re a young athlete, you play any sport and you don’t look up to guys like Tom Brady, you’re crazy,” Mahomes said. “The guy has been successful year after year, continues to improve and is not satisfied with where he is. It’s the kind of greatness you strive for as you grow older.”

Mahomes hopes the third time will be the charm in his matchups with Brady, but both have to win a couple of games in these playoffs first.

Because let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to see Round 3 between Mahomes and Brady?
