Timo Horn is now threatened with the cup in Cologne

Timo Horn will not return to 1. FC Köln’s goal for the time being. Perhaps the self-grown person could become a permanent bench press after his recovery.

For some time now, 1. FC Köln has made it a practice to remain silent about the type of illness in affected professionals. They say “sick”, the rest is silence and possibly speculation. You don’t have to join him, it’s bad enough for those affected anyway.

Currently, there are two players, Jorge Meré and Timo Horn, who have to stay away from training because they are ill. Especially for the goalkeeper, this forced break is more than inconvenient. Among other things, because he missed the practice after a knee injury, coach Steffen Baumgart left his replacement Marvin Schwänke in goal to start the second half, but also because the summer newcomer had done well in the last seven games of the first half of the season.

Horn’s Pokal-Aus could cost him dearly

Horn sat on the bench in Berlin, and has been sick ever since. The problem for the long-time regular goalkeeper: He was scheduled for the cup game against Hamburger SV next Tuesday, but now he’s running out of time. There is no telling when he will be able to start training again and when the risk will be too great to send him into the race completely “cold”. This threatens him to be transferred back to the bank for the rest of the season – not an easy situation for the home grown man, who has been the undisputed number one for around a decade.

Jorge Meré is also currently absent from illness. The central defender had to take a break in Berlin. This means that the coach, Luca Kilian and Timo Hübers, currently has only two central defenders available for training. It remains to be seen whether the Spaniard will be able to play on Saturday. Baumgart is not thinking of a new signing in this position despite the sale of Rafael Czichos (Chicago Fire), but sees the full-back Kingsley Ehizibue or Benno Schmitz as alternatives for central defense if necessary.
