The Standard, the biggest Belgian supplier to CAN

Thus, Belgium will provide 27 internationals to the various selections (15 out of 24) competing on Cameroonian soil, and no less than 13 elite clubs – 15 with the RFB and the Olympic, members of Nationale 1 – have yielded to the least one player for the cause of their home country.

Twenty-seven units is a significant number if we compare it with the French Ligue 1 (51), “out of competition” for historical reasons, but especially with the other leading championships: 39 from the Premier League (England ), 22 ceded by Serie A (Italy) and 11 loaned by La Liga (Spain).

The players concerned will miss between 3 and 5 days of the championship depending on the results of their national team, without taking into account a possible quarantine depending on the evolution of the epidemic.

Hervé Koffi (Charleroi) will open the ball

Numerically, the Belgian team most affected by CAN is Standard with five elements included in their respective selection. Conversely, his opponent of the resumption, for the Clasico, Anderlecht, deplores only one absent: Christian Kouamé, recruited by the Ivory Coast. But a “Kouamé” – 75% of playing time with the Mauves – is well worth three Rouches (Sissako, 2x holder and 16 minutes of rabiot with Elsner in 10 matches; Rafia, practically invisible, and Tapsoba, who has not seen the field only 34 minutes, all at once, for 2 and a half months)… For Amallah and Fai, the Cameroonian holder in the last four league matches, it is, on the other hand, another matter to be managed for the Franco coach -croat… After Standard, La Gantoise is the most mobilized with three forced absentees, Tissaoudi, Marreh and Ngadeu…

For its part, Charleroi would have gone well to cede a player to a key position: its goalkeeper, Hervé Koffi, who will open the ball, this Sunday at 5 p.m. against the host country at the Paul Biya stadium.

Cameroon to be precise, with three players, is also one of the nations with the most Belgicans: the Ghent residents Ngadeu and Standardman Fai already mentioned as well as the Malinois Gouet. Guinea has just as many.

Just like the Gambia, which chance or not, is led by the Belgian globetrotter, Tom Saintfliet, one of the nine (out of twenty-four) non-African selectors of this Can.

One last element: if the ceding clubs receive compensation per player and per day for the World Cups (Fifa) and the Euro (UEFA), it is not certain that the clubs receive compensation in the circumstances …
