The South American Amateur Open is the perfect prelude to LAAC 2022

With the support of The R&A, the Amateur South American Open returns to the Quito Tennis and Golf Club in Ecuador.

With the support of The R&A return the Amateur South American Open after the cancellation of the 2021 edition due to a pandemic. The best fans in the region gather at the Quito Tennis Y Golf Club of Ecuador, venue that receives for the first time this championship organized by the South American Golf Federation and the Ecuadorian Golf Federation.

The Chilean Benjamín Saiz-Wenz (absent in this edition) and the Colombian María José Bohórquez are the last champions of the event that will begin this Wednesday. Two years ago, in the field of Sport Francés in Santiago de Chile, Saiz-Wenz and Bohórquez achieved their most important victory at the individual level. Saiz-Wenz finished with 277 shots (-11), relegating Argentina’s Mateo Fernández de Oliveira to second place. Bohórquez, meanwhile, achieved victory with a total of 284 hits (-4), ahead of Argentina’s Valentina Rossi.

Let’s hope that things work out in the best possible way this week in Quito and great champions are crowned.” said Mark Lawrie, Director of The R&A for Latin America and the Caribbean.

A field of 92 confirmed players will have the 16th edition of this Amateur South American Open which will allow the best amateur players of the moment to be seen in action, led by seven of the champions of the past South American Team Championship ‘Copa Los Andes’ and seven of the eight winners of the South American Junior and Youth Championship, who will have the advantage to compete in the same field in which they were recently crowned.

Already with the sights set next week on the Latin America Amateur Championship which will be played from January 20 to 23 in Cottage, Dominican Republic, the gentlemen will have the opportunity to adjust details in their game in a high-ranking championship that will have Fernández de Oliveira in the field, the best Latin American in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and who is going for revenge in this edition.
