With no playoff chances, Washington Football Team and New York Giants faced each other this Sunday (9) in a MetLife Stadium with empty seats. The franchise from the American capital dominated the classic from start to finish and won 22-7.
Antonio Gibson was the big name of the game, with 146 rushing yards on 21 carries, plus a touchdown. Quarterback Taylor Heinicke made a few mistakes, but shy: 120 passing yards and no TD passes. On the Giants side, no positives. The offense suffered turnovers and Jake Fromm had 103 yards in the air, a touchdown and two interceptions.
Washington, who managed to reach the playoffs last season, ended the current one with seven wins and 10 losses. New York goes another year without going to the postseason and embitters a record of 4-13.
THE GAME
Washington’s first campaign was promising, with Heinicke behaving well and having good passes. However, the visitors had to settle for a field goal. Next, NY managed to advance to the attacking field, but failed to convert a fourth down and suffered a turnover on downs.
From then on, the attacks no longer worked. Short-lived plays and punts were the trend until the closing minutes of the first half, when Washington managed to score another field goal to make the score 6-0.
In the final stretch of the third period, after more punts, Bobby McCain intercepted Jake Fromm and ran into the end zone to complete pick six.

The Giants made a recovery campaign and, finally, put points on the scoreboard. Fromm, 23, threw his first touchdown pass in the NFL when he connected a 22-yard throw to Darius Slayton. NY reaction!

But Washington responded immediately and got comfortable on the scoreboard again. With a solid campaign, the team from the American capital advanced naturally and scored more points with an 18-yard run by Antonio Gibson.

On the Giants’ next possession, Fromm suffered a bizarre fumble and the ball returned to the capital’s franchise, which came close to the end zone, but scored just one more field goal. In the final seconds, already in season-ending rhythm, the NY quarterback was intercepted once again.
