The departure of James, one of the bad decisions of Rafa Benítez

Rafa Benítez could not fulfill a single season of the three that he signed with Everton in the month of June 2021. The Spanish coach barely spent 6 months in office and was dismissed last weekend following another Premier League loss against Norwich City. The poor results and pressure from the fans precipitated his departure.

Liverpool Echo, one of the most important newspapers in that city, published “the 5 steps that led to Benítez being fired” from Everton. In two of them the Colombian players are named: Yerry Mina and James Rodríguez, who left the club in September as he was not going to be taken into account by the coach. They consider that it was a bad decision to let him go to Qatar football.

“Perhaps Benítez tried to make his Everton substitution attempts too early. (…) Lucas Digne became the last in a long list of players who fought with the coach over the years. The manager didn’t seem to like James Rodriguez from the start“said the newspaper.

Regarding Mina, the DT had the injuries of several referents of the team, among them that of the Colombian. That meant that he will not find an important base to build his 2021/22 project. “Abdoulaye Doucouré suffered a toe injury at a time when he was enjoying great form, while Yerry Mina has been out for more than half of Everton’s games.

The Toffees are sixteenth in the Premier with 19 points, they are only separated by 6 units from the relegation places. In England there is talk that the next coach will come out of a deck of 6 names, among which stand out Roberto Martínez, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard.
