The match between Palencia and Juaristi Iraurgi, originally scheduled for this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in the city of Palencia, has been suspended due to the Covid-19 outbreak suffered by Iñaki Jiménez’s team.

To the three positives identified yesterday, this morning two more have been added in a test that the urolatarras have done on their own initiative and due to “health responsibility”, since there were several members of the team with symptoms and others were living with positives. One of them, despite presenting symptoms typical of Covid, has tested negative.

The new protocol of the Spanish Basketball Federation indicated that a game had to be suspended with four positives or more, and Juaristi Iraurgi was clearly being affected by this change. Between the last fortnight of December and the first of January, most of the LEB Oro teams had suffered outbreaks in the team and took advantage of the protocol that indicated that “more than two positives is considered an outbreak” to have the option of postponing the matches .

However, the azpeiti-azkoitiarras had barely suffered infections until now, so they faced this outbreak in completely different conditions from those of the rest of the competitors. If the positives had been four and if Palencia had not wanted to postpone the match, an attitude that they have taken by ceding all responsibility to the FEB, Juaristi Iraurgi would have had to travel to Palencia with six players; that is to say, a quintet and only one change.
