Senegal finish first in their group … despite only one small goal

Senegal have qualified for the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations. Facing Malawi, the men ofAliou Cisse could not do better than a goalless draw (0-0). For the return ofEdward Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and Win Gueye after contracting Covid-19, the Teranga Lions failed to get the better of their opponents. Worse, they were very scared by conceding a penalty in the last quarter of an hour, which was canceled via an intervention by the VAR. It is without brilliance that Senegal reached the round of 16, having scored only one small goal, from a penalty, in their first match against Zimbabwe. Defensively, the team is on point and has still not conceded the slightest achievement. These poor results still allow the Senegalese to finish in first place in their group (5 points), ahead of Guinea (4) and Malawi (4). Senegal and Guinea join Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Cameroon in the round of 16. Malawi keep their chances of reaching the round of 16 as the best third in the competition.
