The clash of Group B ultimately did not keep its promises. At the end of a very close match, Senegal and Guinea could not decide (0-0). If the national Sily dominated a good part of the match, it did not know how to concretize. As for the Terenga Lions, they woke up too late.
Senegal or Guinea had the opportunity to take shelter by validating their ticket for the round of 16 of the CAN, Friday January 14, in Bafoussam. But the expected shock between the heavyweights of group B gave birth to a mouse.
No observation phase, Guinea immediately took control of the match, with several actions in the first five minutes. If the rhythm then drops, with heavy pressing in midfield, it is still the national Sily who imposes his game in the first period.
Imperial Naby Keita
Senegal, certainly amputated by several stars affected by the Covid-19, seems completely helpless. And Sadio Mané, clearly above, cannot carry the team on his own.
We still have to wait until the 31st minute to see the first shot on target of the game: on a counter attack from Keita, Guilavogui, served by Moriba, finds himself alone in front of the goal, but his crushed shot comes up against Dieng, the Senegalese goalkeeper.
At the break, Senegal is completely suffocated by Guinea, well in place, and led by a Naby Keita of the great days, logically elected man of the match
The late awakening of the Terenga Lions
When they return from the locker room, the match resumes on the same basis, but after 10 minutes in the second half, the Terenga Lions finally wake up! They get several set pieces and regain some bite, while the Guineans seem to pay for their efforts. After several more or less dangerous actions, Senegal offers its first real: an incursion of Mané in the surface, which serves Bouna Sarr, unmarked. This hooks a defender, but his shot goes just wide (61st).
This is not enough to reverse the trend, the awakening of the Lions is too late, and Guinea is holding on.
The two teams therefore separate with a clean score, and each have 4 points in this group B.
