Sekou Doumbouya signed again by the Lakers

NBA 2021/22 – Sekou Doumbouya is back in the NBA. In mid-November, the 21-year-old Frenchman was cut off by the Lakers due to a foot injury that would take him away from the courts for several weeks. Recovered from it, he was re-signed yesterday by the Los Angeles franchise on a two-way contract. He should finish the season with the team and try to get minutes.

Sekou Doumbouya is definitely living a season of twists and turns. Last September he was transferred from Pistons, the franchise where he was drafted in 2019, towards the Nets. He only stayed in Brooklyn for a month, time for training camp and a preseason game. The Nets, who did not want to integrate it into their project, transferred it to the Rockets, where it was cut in stride. These are ultimately the Lakers who picked it up in mid-October with a two-way contract, just before the start of the season. There, Doumbouya was able to play some garbage times and start showing up, but a foot injury cut him off. Freed by the Los Angeles franchise, who did not want to burden themselves with an injured person, he found himself without a team.

It is ultimately these same Lakers who give a new opportunity to the native of Conakry, as they announced last night. Recovered from his foot injury, he is back in great shape. He could bring his defense and his outside shot to the Lakers, who are going through a difficult pass. These latter are sorely lacking in physical presence on the wings and inside, and this is where Doumbouya has a card to play. With his 2m06 and his 105kg, he represents a profile that the Lakers lack. With a two-way contract, he will be at the end of the rotation but will have opportunities to show himself. On his two matches with the purple and gold in November, he compiled 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 against at 63% shooting including 50% from distance.
