Season record 19 threesomes: Bayern crashes Bonn from the top

The top game for the BBL table lead goes to FC Bayern. In a dominant victory over Bonn, Munich set a season record.

“When a player throws well and passes the ball because another player is in an even better position, that’s a pass with love. And a ball covered with love always falls.”

At the press conference, Andrea Trinchieri explained FC Bayern Munich’s 100:81 home win against Telekom Baskets Bonn, during which the Munich side threw themselves into a frenzy: the home team converted 19 of their 29 long-range shots, setting a BBL season record .

“We controlled the game for almost 30 minutes,” explained Trinchieri – which is particularly true of the second half. There, Bayern dominated the guests at times. In the first 6:13 minutes after the break, the Munich team netted six threes: Whether it was difficult throws against the man or open throws after repeated swing passes – everything seemed to fall into place.

In the end, six Bayern players scored at least twice from downtown, Andi Obst (14 pts, 4/7 3FG) and Nick Weiler-Babb (12 pts, 4/6 3FG) presented themselves as the most dangerous.

Trinchieri was also pleased with defense, despite Parker Jackson-Cartwright putting up 30 points – “but their offense was under control,” Trinchieri said. “We read well what we can give them and what we want to take from them. We followed the instructions this time.”

The Munich team forced the Bonn ball handlers to make many shots – but the guests hardly released the far-field shooters with good closeouts. The guests only took five throws from the catch-and-shoot (share: only 6.1%) – with a share of 25.6 percent actually their most sought-after type of finish. In addition, the Bavarians adapted better to the Bonn Big Men after the break: In the first half, the abrollers threw the field nine times, after the break only twice.

Nevertheless, Bonn’s coach Tuomas Iisalo was satisfied with his team’s attacking game. “The most important thing for us was to play with our own identity. That’s what we did: With 14 attempts to throw from the field and one more free throw, we won the possession game,” explained Iisalo, having thrown off the field more often thanks to nine offensive rebounds and a solid twelve turnovers. “In our situation it was a step in the right direction, without having to play two important rotation players”. Because without Karsten Tadda and Javontae Hawkins, who are in corona quarantine, Bonn only operated with a rotation of seven and a half players.

So the Bonners conceded their third defeat in a row and slipped to second place in the table. Bayern took the lead in the table, with a record of 12-4 just ahead of Bonn (12-5).
