Rozitis: My 17-year career as a sled rider is over

Latvian sled driver Riks Kristens Rozītis is ending his 17-year career as a sled driver, the athlete announced on his Facebook account on Tuesday.

In the World Cup stage in Sigulda, Riks Kristens Rozītis took the eighth place first, but in the Sprint Cup he fell and settled for the 15th position.

“I have dedicated myself to this sport for 17 wonderful years as an athlete who has always fought to the end. I don’t give up in my spirit, and I don’t do it again this time. I just change my plan,” says the athlete.

He admits that he has always dreamed of becoming the fastest sledge rider in the world, but has not achieved it.

“So my goal is the same, only this time I want to give my knowledge and raise the fastest sledge riders in the world. Even if not everyone becomes a champion, they will be better people,” the athlete points out.

At the age of ten, Rozīte was involved in sleigh racing by another Latvian national team rider, Artūrs Dārznieks, but the first coach was the Olympic medalist Ingrīda Amantova. The athlete says that he did not regret his choice at any time.
