Report: Matt Eberflus will be the new head coach of the Chicago Bears

Los Chicago Bears fired head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace in the Black Monday at the end of the regular season. A few days ago they signed Ryan Poles as GM and everything indicates that they found their future head coach in the figure of Matt Eberflus.

According to the report by Ian Rapoport, of NFL Network, the Bears will hire Eberflus as their new head coach. Eberflus served as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts from 2018 through the current season. Other candidates interviewed by the Bears were Brian Flores, Jim Caldwell, Dan Quinn y Todd Bowles.

In 2021, the unit commanded by Eberflus the third best in rushing touchdowns allowed with 10, and tied for third in interceptions with the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams with 19 interceptions.

Eberflus experience

Before being the defensive coordinator for the Colts, Eberflus served as linebackers coach for the Dallas Cowboys, between 2012 and 2017, and the Cleveland Browns, in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

His coaching career began in 1992, at the age of 22., as a student assistant at the University of Toledo. In 1994 he became the Rockets’ outside linebackers coach and in 1999 he spent the first of two seasons as defensive backs coach. Eberflus was the defensive coordinator at the University of Missouri from 2001 to 2008, months before making the jump to the NFL with the Browns.
