Report: Lions to fire offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn

After four seasons as Los Angeles head coach Chargers, Anthony Lynn found a new job opportunity in Detroit as the offensive coordinator of the Lions. But nevertheless, he will have to look for a new job as soon as the 2021 NFL season ends.

According to Ian Rapoport’s report from NFL Network, the team will fire Lynn after the game against the Green Bay Packers. Detroit’s offense was the fifth worst of the season in points, generating just 18 per game.

After a 0-8-1 start, Lions head coach Dan Campbell removed the responsibility of calling offensive plays from Lynn. Detroit only scored more than 20 points in four of the 16 games that have been played through Week 17.

Former players as coaches

Campbell focused on hiring former players as coaches since he was a tight end during 10 years in which he played with the New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit.

In addition to Lynn, who was a running back for six seasons, Campbell hired Duce Staley, Mark Brunnell y Antwaan Randle El as coaches. Staley as assistant head coach, Brunnell as quarterback coach and Randle El handled the wide receivers.
