Qualifying rounds: Ricardo Gareca disagrees with the sanitary measures taken in Peru | National teams

The coach of Peru, Ricardo Gareca, expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision of the country’s health authorities that the friendly match against Panama be played without an audience at the National Stadium in Lima.

“I do not agree, but there is no other choice … we have to respect it,” said the Argentine coach on his departure from the National Sports Village in Lima after directing the fifth training session of the Peruvian team with a view to the match against Panama.

It is not the first time that Gareca makes controversial statements about the management of the covid-19 pandemic, since last week he avoided criticizing the captain and top scorer of the team, Paolo Guerrero, for organizing a massive party when it was not allowed.

Peruvian football is currently mired in a wave of infections, which has forced the start of the league to be postponed from January 21 to February 3 when dozens of positive cases were detected in the soccer players who this week began the preseason. Even the Peruvian team detected two cases of covid-19 among those summoned.

The meeting between Peru and Panama is scheduled for Sunday, January 16 at 4:00 PM and four days later it will host Jamaica on the same stage. However, the Peruvian health authorities have not yet ruled on the conditions that the meeting will have against Jamaica.

Still less has the health protocol been specified to receive Ecuador on February 1, on the penultimate day of the South American qualifying qualifying rounds for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
