The publication of the Notice of Regatta confirms the dates, format, sports program and classes that will make up the 51st Princess Sofía Mallorca Trophy. The first major European event of Olympic classes of the 2022 season brings together many of the best specialists in the world for an intense week of regattas on the stage of the bay of Palma under the joint organization of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, the Club Náutic S ‘Arenal and the San Antonio de la Playa Maritime Club.

Ferrán Muniesa, technical director of the Princesa Sofía Trophy, explains that “The publication of the Notice of Race is the official starting signal for an edition that we look forward to with special emotion after two years of blank due to the global pandemic.

It is the result of the common effort of the three clubs, with the invaluable help of our collaborators and public institutions that understand the importance of the Princess Sofía Trophy. We have not stopped receiving the support of teams of different nationalities, which have already shown their intention to return to Mallorca to participate in this next edition. We are looking forward to welcoming the first sailors and for the bay of Palma to recover the unrivaled spectacle of the Olympic class competition “.

Ten olympic classes

The 51st Princess Sofía Trophy summons ten Olympic classes: the women’s ILCA 6, 49er FX, IQ Foil and Formula Kite; the men’s ILCA 7, 49er, IQ Foil and Formula Kite; and the mixed 470 and Nacra 17. The competition will take place in the incomparable setting of the bay of Palma between Monday, April 4, and Saturday, April 9, the day on which the Medal Races will be held, the final scoring double those that only the best classified have access to.

To prepare for the first big event of the year, all participants arrive in Mallorca weeks in advance. To optimize the preparation of the Princess Sofía Trophy, they are invited to compete in the Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta, a training regatta that will be held in the bay of Palma between March 10 and 13.

Other categories

The week before the start of the competition, the traditional non-Olympic class regatta will be held. The Real Club Náutico de Palma will host this test that will take place between March 31 and April 3, and in which the participation of a large representation of cruises and boats of one-design classes such as Dragon, J70, is expected. J80 or Musto Skiff.

The SAR Princesa Sofía Mallorca Trophy is organized by the S’Arenal Nàutic Club, the San Antonio de la Playa Maritime Club, the Real Club Náutico de Palma, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Balearic Sailing Federation, with the support of the main Balearic public institutions.
