PGA: Hodges and Cantlay do well

Americans Patrick Cantlay and Lee Hodges dominated the first round of the American Express PGA Tour on Thursday in California, each dropping 10 strokes from par.

The particularity of this event is that it is played on three different courts. Cantlay and Hodges started the competition on the course at La Quinta Golf Club.

They each handed over a clear card of 62 (-10), consisting of an eagle and eight birdies. They will thus begin the second day of activities with a priority of two strikes on the American Cameron Young and the South Korean KH Lee. Like the point guards, Young walked the La Quinta field during the first round. Lee, for his part, hit the ball 64 times on the “Stadium” course.

The New Zealander Danny Lee, the Irish Seamus Power, as well as the Americans Tom Hoge and Greyson Sigg were the best on the “Nicklaus” course. The four men hit the white object 65 (-7) times. They share fifth place with four other participants.

Roger Sloan was the top Canadian on day one. He shot a round of 66 (-6) on the “Stadium” course.

Adam Hadwin and Michael Gligic also did well, with a score of 68 (-4), which earned them 40th place, tied with several other golfers. Nick Taylor and Adam Svensson point to the 52nd level by virtue of a card of 69 (-3).

Things went less well for Taylor Pendrith (71; -1) and Corey Conners (75; +3), who will have to redouble their efforts to move up the peloton, they who are in 96th and 143rd position respectively.

LPGA: Brooke M. Henderson close to the top

Canadian Brooke M. Henderson got off to a good start in the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Orlando, Florida, with a first card of 69 (-3).

The Maple Leaf representative stalled five birdies and committed two bogeys. She shares sixth place with American Jessica Korda and Thai Pajaree Anannarukarn.

The three women, however, are two strokes behind the Mexican Gaby Lopez.

Only 29 women participate in this tournament, which includes all those who have won at least one event during the previous year. No other Canadians are taking part.
